We Still Need Your Aid With The Boiler!

There are many ways to say it, but it really comes down to this: you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. You don’t really appreciate a warm house until the house boiler breaks. Our brothers know from experience. You recently received a letter from the board asking for your support to replace our chapter house’s 45-year-old boiler. Thank all of you who stepped up to help make living in the house more comfortable for our actives!

The current brothers made due through this bitterly cold winter (that brought a lot of snow!); however, we owe it to them, and to ourselves as owners of a $1M property at 338 East Fairmount Ave. in beautiful State College, Pa., to buy the house a new boiler.  We are looking to you, as alumni, to play a member of the Justice League and get OUR house a boiler that will provide and maintain a comfortable living situation for our active brothers and alumni who visit the house. We have all lived in that house at one time or another, so we need to pull together as a brotherhood.

The current boiler was first licensed in 1983 along with the rest of the house, and it was listed as pre-existing. The boiler is now 45 years old and it has been obsolete, unfortunately, since the 90s. It’s time we replaced the old and bring in something new (not to mention, this has sort of become a necessity since our license has added some new requirements). While this needs a quick resolution, we have exhausted our capital reserves and are relying on alumni to give to this specific and very urgent need.

The cost to replace the boiler is $50,000. We have almost 1,200 living alumni in our database; so in essence, if each member of the fraternity chipped in $50, we could quickly achieve our goal. We understand not everyone will give back, but even if half of our alumni base chipped in $100, we could pay for the boiler and put some money back into our capital reserves!  By giving back to this cause, you’ll ensure the comfort and safety of current actives (and us when we visit the house for those late October/early November football weekends!) as well as the future of our fraternity. If having a direct impact on the fraternity is something you wish to do, this is the way to do it.

Remember how important Phi Kappa Theta was in your college years? Someone right now is hoping that Phi Kappa Theta can be just as important to them.  Come through for them, and teach them responsibility, duty and sacrifice. To recognize and thank those who supported this campaign, we will be placing a plaque in the house with the names of those brothers who stepped up to keep the house warm.
