PSU Headed to Pinstripe Bowl

It has been a long three seasons since the Nittany Lions made their way into a postseason bowl game. Well, we made it! Penn State will play Boston College at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, December 27 in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl.

The Penn State football team, alumni, fans and the State College community alike have seen our faith, loyalty, and determination tested many times over since the Tom Bradley led team was defeated by the Houston Cougars in the TicketCity Bowl following the tumultuous 2010 season. But through it all – the scandal, the loss of JoePa, the sanctions, the transfers, the coaching changes – we stuck together, and most importantly, the team stuck together and now have a chance to put an exclamation point at the end of the extraordinary careers of the Nittany Lions' seniors.

Penn State Bowl History

The Pinstripe Bowl will be the 45th bowl game in the storied history of the Penn State Nittany Lions football program. The Nittany Lions hold a 27-15-2 all-time bowl record – but they have lost 3 of their last four bowl appearances.

Geographically speaking, the last (and only) times the Nittany Lions played in a postseason game that wasn't in a tropical climate was in the Rip Engle era – when Penn State dropped Alabama and Oregon in the 1959 and 1960 Liberty Bowls in Philadelphia.

Penn State/Boston College Series History

The Boston College Eagles are no strangers to the Nittany Lions – having played each other 23 times since 1949. Penn State leads the all-time series 19-4 but Boston College has won the last three meetings.

The two teams have not faced each other since 2003 and 2004, two seasons that most fans would rather forget about when the Nittany Lions won a combined 7 games over the span of two seasons. Thankfully, Penn State turned it around the following season – going 11-1 and beating another ACC team, the Florida State Seminoles, in the Orange Bowl.
